Operational update: escalating disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz affect global shipping networks

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz continues to deteriorate rapidly, causing widespread disruption across global shipping lanes. Following yesterday’s advisory, several leading ocean carriers have now intensified their operational restrictions as tensions in the region escalate.

The growing instability has led multiple carriers to suspend transits through the Strait entirely, citing exceptional risk conditions. As a result, the impact is no longer limited to the Gulf region—major East–West trade corridors are experiencing increasing congestion, rerouting challenges, and vessel and equipment repositioning constraints.

    Carrier status updates – bookings

    • Hapag-Lloyd
Suspension of all bookings to/from Africa to the Upper Gulf. Reefer bookings to/from the Upper Gulf, Arabian Gulf, and Persian Gulf remain suspended. Vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz continue to be halted.
    • MSC
No new advisories issued. The suspension of all Middle East–destined bookings worldwide remains in effect.
    • CMA CGM
No additional updates. The carrier maintains its suspension of Suez Canal transits and continues its freeze on all reefer bookings to/from the Middle East region.
    • ONE (Ocean Network Express)
Full suspension of all bookings to/from the Persian Gulf.
    • Maersk
Bookings for reefer, dangerous goods, and special cargo in/out of the Middle East remain suspended until further notice. New bookings between the Indian Subcontinent and Upper Gulf markets are also paused.

    Surcharges and operational outlook

No new surcharge announcements have been issued beyond those communicated by Hapag-Lloyd and CMA CGM in the 02.03.2026 advisory.
